A new CD release, Open Spaces by the Ragazze Quartet (Amsterdam) features the first three string quartets by Garth Knox. The first quartet, Satellites, was written for the Kronos Quartet and is part of their Fifty for the Future project . The second quartet, Four into Twenty, was written for the Ragazze Quartet. The third ‘quartet’ is called Quartet for One and is scored for solo viola! (written during the lockdown period of 2020). Played on this recording by Garth Knox.
The album is completed with a solo from the Violin Spaces by each member of the quartet plus a duo between Garth Knox and the viola player of the group, Annemijn Berkotte.
You can visit the Ragazze page about this Cd with interview and videos or listen to a Radio France podcast. The entire album is on Spotify.
New duo CD with super irish fiddler Caoimhin O Raghallaigh! His beautiful ten string “Hardanger d’Amore” blends perfectly with Garth’s viola d’amore, in a mix of traditional Irish tunes and free improvisation. Now available here.
